Every year I try to go to Cowes for one of the days to take photos. Normally the first Saturday, but this year, due to the weather it was the Sunday. It’s not just about the racing. There’s so much going on on Southampton Water, it’s a wonderful place to get shots.

The geek in me
I quite enjoy photographing scenes around Southampton Water. There’s always loads going on, whether big container ships are on the move, or smaller vessels on quietly moving up and down the river. Where I come from I should probably be photographing trains, as it’s a railway town… but I think I prefer the boats.

Unusual Angles
It’s always a good idea to look out for unusual angles when taking photos. I attended Cowes Week 2012 a couple of weeks ago, and find it much better to take the slow vehicle ferry than the fast cat. This way you actually get to see something. On the way back I was lucky enough to see four passenger liners coming down Southampton Water, and in the right position to get this shot.
